The Great Drink Adventure – The first bad one

It had to happen some time. The first horrible, terrible, no good, very bad coffee drink has been tried. Freeze brand Extra coffee with milk. By far the worst thing we have shared with each other in the name of science. Good thing it was extremely cheap, sadly though it lived up to it. Our initial impressions might give some insight as to how bad this is with Cat’s “I’m drinking a bonfire” and my “Wow… never again”. If that’s not a bad sign, I don’t know what is.

Taste-wise it was utterly horrible. That is not an exaggeration as neither of us wanted to finish it let alone take another sip for taste. From a more objective perspective, I found it to have a baker’s chocolate mixed with Crows candy (think licorice Dots) taste. Cat finds it to be more of Liquid Smoke pretending to be coffee with random splashes of sugar syrup. Neither are very appetizing.

We both give this thing a whopping 0 out of five for the copious reasons given above.  THE HORROR.

The Great Drink Adventure – The Dydo Edition

Image

The third entry in the Great Drink Adventure, Dydo Blend Coffee, personally (Cat) is the most disappointing so far. As the most expensive (something like 2.29 for 6.2 oz) I was really hoping that this would be something mind blowing. You know I actually would have happily settled for decent but unfortunately I didn’t think it even made that mark. Finch on the other hand loves it, but as he mentioned in a previous post he prefers his coffee black as night and bitter as death. (I may or may not be paraphrasing)

Taste wise it’s very close to regular black coffee that’s been left out and gotten cold. However just when you think you’ve figured it out it punches you in the mouth with sugar. No really, it somehow morphs from cold black coffee into sugared water in your mouth. While it can easily claim a full bodied coffee flavor it also, to me at least, seems to have a thin watery quality which I don’t care for. Finch describes it as a layered flavor effect. Initially just a watery liquid, then the coffee flavoring, followed up by the milk and sugar as opposed to being one cohesive taste. While he finds it odd but thoroughly enjoyable it’s just not my cup of tea, or can of coffee as it were.

Cat gives it a 1.5 out of 5, Finch gives it a 4 out of 5 on the awesome meter.

The Great Drink Adventure! (part deux)

My turn! (Finch) This was something special. Mr. Brown iced coffee, cappuccino flavor. With the crazy smiling man and the somewhat Engrish reassurance that quality is no problem if you find milk flakes, I was rather skeptical at first. After a good shake and that satisfying pop of the can, Cat gave it a trial sip. A stare, then another sip followed by a “Not bad!” was all I needed to be truly on board for trying myself. I personally find coffee that has milk and sugar added to be rather on the disgusting side, however this odd beverage isn’t half bad.

Not sure if I’ll be giving better worded reviews in the future, but I’m really coming down from the crazy caffeine high from this thing. It’s literally got coffee extract as the second ingredient. Perhaps a black coffee version would be a new cheap energy drink for me…… science shall be done.

Cat gives it a 2.5 out of 5, siting the flavor being like over-sweetened coffee broth. There are better ones out there, but this one is quite drinkable. I’ll give it a 1.5 simply due to the milk and sugar. The brand might make a comeback with a straight coffee version, we’ll see.
